With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of David Giles Thomas, age 79, of North Sydney, on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024.
Born in North Sydney on November 4th, 1945, Dave was the son of the late Keltie and Naomi (Billard) Thomas.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sandra Thomas (Myler), his daughter Lindsay Thomas, (Kevin Hibma) and his granddaughter Nadia Hibma.
Dave is also survived by his brother Bill Thomas (Sandra); sisters Marlene Clancy and Jean Parker (Norm); brothers-in-law John Parsons, Brian Myler (Mary), Alexander Hoganson (Lisa) and Peter Poulos; sisters-in-law Brenda Henschel (Brian), Marilyn MacDonald and Gearlyn Tutty (Percy); along with Eleanor Thomas. Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends.
Dave worked for 34 years with the Express and Canadian National Railway Police out of Halifax, Cape Tormentine, Borden-Carleton, and North Sydney retiring in 2000. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was always looking to catch “the big one”. He loved the water, whether at the beach or the Northside Community Pool. He was very friendly and generous - he often helped strangers and donated to charity.
Besides his parents, Dave was also predeceased by his birth mother Naomi Johnson and birth father Jim Thomas; sisters Joan Parsons and Jane Thomas; sister-in-law Sheree Poulos; brothers-in-law Ronald Clancy and Liam MacDonald.
Visitation for Dave will be held 1-4 pm Saturday, November 30, 2024, at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
