Dennis Roy Gale

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Roy Gale on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Northside General Hospital at the age of 90. Born in North Sydney on May 27, 1933 he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Fricker) Gale. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Dennis held many different jobs in his life; most notably as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 682 and was also the custodian at the Northern Yacht Club and St. Matthew Wesley United Church in North Sydney for a number of years.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Trapper) MacPherson of Fort McMurray; son, Lloyd of Glace Bay; grandchildren – Krystal (Nick) Van Buuren, Jesse (Andrea) MacPherson, Aaron Gale, Curtis Gale, and George Patrick Lewis; great-grandchildren; Ava Fenty-Hoskins, Jett Hoskins, Will MacPherson, Pierce Van Buuren, Nolan Van Buuren, Jones Van Buuren, Robert Gale, and Hannah Gale.

Dennis was predeceased by his wife, Betty Gale; his daughter, Millie Gale- Matzick; a son in infancy; daughter-in-law, Shannon Gale; grandson, Dennis MacPherson; brothers – John, George “Jigger”, Eric “Turk”, and Elmer “Ick” Gale; sisters – Greta Moore, Goldie Carter, and Marie Marinelli.

A visitation will be held for Dennis from 1-3 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St. in North Sydney with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Donations are encouraged to be made to the Salvation Army or the Northside Food Bank.
