It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Devlin Alexander Vickers, age 85, on Saturday February 10, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney Mines on October 12, 1938, Devlin was the son of the late William and Sarah (Bonnar) Vickers. He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic, North Sydney, until his retirement. Devlin was a devout member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.

Devlin is survived by his wife, Joan (MacKenzie) Vickers, daughter, Patricia Kirkwood, Oakville, Ontario; sons, Darren (Janet) Vickers, Millville, and Scott (Joanne) Vickers, North Sydney.  Also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Finlayson and Ann Ferguson.

Besides his parents, Devlin was predeceased by brothers, Edgar, Russell, two infant brothers, Ferdinand and Augustus, sisters, Catherine, Jessie, Loretta, Mae, Willena, Vivian, Jean, and son-in-law, Graham Kirkwood. 

Visitation for Devlin will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13th in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 15th, at 10:30 am, at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.  Cremation to follow with burial at a later date in the Black Rock Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com .
