Diana Frances McInnis   75

Sydney Mines

We are very saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Diana “Diane” Frances McInnis, age 75 on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in North Sydney on November 25, 1942, Diane was the daughter of the late George and Gabrielle (Doublet) MacDonald.  Beloved wife of Stan, Diane leaves behind one son Allen Stanley, daughter-in-law Krista (Zink) McInnis, two wonderful grandchildren, Keira Drew and Ewan William McInnis.  Also surviving are her two wonderful sisters, Gina (William) Hunter, Baddeck and Betty MacDonald, North Sydney, who spent much of Diane’s last years helping Stan with her daily care; her brothers Greg (Debbie), North Sydney, John (the late Heather), Georges River, Billy (Moragh), Ronnie (Debbie), both of North Sydney, also her brothers-in-law Peter (Adele) McInnis, Westmount, Joseph “Bud” (Margaret) McInnis, North Sydney, Reid (Linda) McInnis, Sydney, sisters-in-law Carmie LeRoux (the late Elwin), Glace Bay, Shirley (the late Norman) Leyte, California, also many nieces and nephews.

Diane had a long and very successful career in business beginning in 1962 with Crescent Finance, later with the bank of Nova Scotia, then with Avco Finance where she spent 25 years starting out as a Customer Service Representative, Branch Manager, District Supervisor, covering Nova Scotia, P.E.I., New Brunswick and finishing up in North Sydney as Branch Manager. While Diane was at Avco Finance, she sponsored a tournament at Seaview Golf & Country Club from 1984 to 1994. This tournament became the premier tournament for Seaview Golf & Country Club.

She enjoyed her work and made many lasting friendships with whom she kept in touch until her passing, including Nicole Bouchay, Allison Chubbs, Gerry (the late Barbara) Barlett, Phil & Joyce Jacques, and Kevin Chisholm with whom she had a special friendship.

Stan thanks her many friends, in particular Monica Shebib, Sharon Watts, Kay Batherson, Violet Young, Florence Hiscock, Clair & Gerry Campbell, Russell & Ann MacDonald, Colleen Keigan, Rita Astephen, Burt & Eleanor Kublek.

Diane enjoyed attending the hockey games when Stan was playing and never missed an opportunity to inform a referee he was making the wrong call or to let him know about a penalty the player on the other side should have gotten.  Many will remember her at those games; she was never shy about giving her opinion.

Diane and Stan spent many winters in Myrtle Beach and enjoyed the friendship of other snow birds spending their winters there as well.  Trips to Dubai to visit her son, and his family were especially important to her, as well as their visits home in the summer.

Diane was a volunteer with Palliative Care for ten years and being able to help people in some small way during their illness, was very rewarding.

Thank you to all those who sent “Get Well” cards during her illness, visited or called, this meant so much to her as did all those who said prayers for her.

Special thanks to the staff at the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Beth MacCormick, Dr. Peter Poulos and the staff and volunteers of Palliative Care; with thanks also to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. John Ritter, Dr. D’Intino, staff and volunteers at the Cancer Centre, Palliative Care Unit and An Cala Unit.

Visitation for Diane will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating.  Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund, Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of choice.  Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
