Diane Marie (Baudoux) MacKinnon, RN
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Diane Marie (Baudoux) MacKinnon on Monday, February 15, 2021 at QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Diane was born on February 26, 1944 in New Glasgow, NS to Garfield and Emma (DeBodt) Baudoux.
She was a member of the Balmoral Pipe Band in Stellarton and the Sprigs of Heather Pipe Band in North Sydney. Diane graduated from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 and Mount Saint Vincent University with a certificate in Gerontology in 1988.
She worked as a nurse at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow and St. Elizabeth Hospital in North Sydney before beginning her thirty seven year career at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she was the Director of Resident Care for twenty five years and the recipient of a Nurse of the Year award for the Cape Breton/Victoria branch of the RN association.
Diane was an active member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney where she served on parish counsel, taught Sunday school and was a lector. Diane enjoyed knitting, sewing, oil painting and scrap booking. Above all, she valued spending time with her family. When her children were young she loved going camping, skating and cross country skiing. More recently, she looked forward to concerts, trips and dinners out with her children. She was very proud of her grandchildren and eager to support them in any way she could.
Diane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her children Michael (Rhonda) MacKinnon, Bedford, Michele (Kevin) Ernst, Lunenburg, Jennifer MacKinnon, Halifax and Jodi (Wally) Nowlan, Cole Harbour, her grandchildren Emma, Tyler and Luke, brother, Art (Rita) Baudoux, Plymouth and special friends Florence, Roberta, Gloria, Joanne, Kelly and Dianne.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of fifty years Joseph MacKinnon, parents Garfield and Emma (DeBodt) Baudoux, and brother Robert “Bob”.
Visitation for Diane will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug Mac Donald officiating. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed in the church with mandatory masks and social distancing.
