Donald Carrigan Obituary

Donald W. Carrigan

North Sydney

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Donald “Donnie” Walter Carrigan, age 57, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Saturday May 2, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.

Born in New Waterford, February 12, 1963, Donnie was the son of the late Angus and Theresa (MacGillivray) Carrigan. In his younger years he worked at the Keltic Lodge, where he met Connie, the love of his life, 36 years ago. He has been working as a labourer doing construction in western Canada for the past number of years. Donnie loved hunting and fishing, playing washer toss, especially enjoyed playing darts with his best buddy Johnny Whitty “Teddy”.

Donnie is survived by his wife of 30 years, Connie (Whitty) Carrigan, his daughters Crystal (Mark) and Lindsey, four beautiful granddaughters, who he loved more than life, Summer, Mariah, Marissa and Sierra, sisters Sharon (Jim) MacLeod, Donna Radtke, Cathy MacKinnon, Debbie (Dennis) Darroch, brothers Larry (Paula) Carrigan and Wayne (Donna) Carrigan, sisters-in-law, Jane (Byron) Redquest, Pauline MacAulay, Lena Whitty (Lenny), Suzanne Whitty, many nieces and nephews, mother-in-law Gertrude Whitty, his god mother Aunt Marie Coish, and many good friends.

Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his identical twin brother and a sister in infancy, by his brothers-in-law Ernie Radtke, Stewart Whitty and John MacAulay.

The family would like to thank Dr. Moamer, Dr. Fashir, Dr. Seliba and the Palliative Care doctors and staff on 4A at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Due to Covid-19 a celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com .
