With deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Donald Levi Hatcher, age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Burnt Island, NL, on January 7, 1933, Donald was the son of the late Howard and Charlotte Jane (King) Hatcher.  He worked for many years at both H.B. Nickerson & Sons and National Sea Products until his retirement. Donald was an avid fisherman and hunter, a backyard mechanic and a big Chicago Black Hawk fan.  He loved music and played the accordion, harmonica and the juice harp.  Donald was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

He is survived by his loving wife Selina (Organ) Hatcher, his five sons Manny (Cathy), Dave, both of North Sydney, Donnie (Darlene MacLennan), Bras d’Or, Tony (Roxanne), North Sydney, John (Nadene Murray), New Waterford, his 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is his brother Victor (Lorraine) Hatcher, Burnt Island, two sisters Margaret Lawrence, Burnt Island, Marie Meade, Fox Roost, NL, several nieces and nephews and also close family friends Terry Leyte and Art Ivey. 

Besides his parents Donald was predeceased by six children, Frances, Angela, Gwendolyn, Michelle, Woodrow and Roger Lee; by his brothers Reg, John, Alex, Dave, Cecil, sisters Emma, Carrie and Alice.

Special thanks to Dr. John Kirkpatrick, the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home, Dr. MacKenzie and the ER staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the excellent care shown to Donald.

Visitation for Donald will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Funeral service to be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or the Northside Community Guest Home.  Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
