It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Bradbury on May 20, 2026 at the Inverness Consolidated Hospital, at the age of 78. 

Donald was born on January 23, 1948, in North Sydney. He was the son of the late Donald Percival and Josephine “Tootsie” (Bona) Bradbury. 

Donald was an avid sportsman back in his day, playing baseball and Hockey where he earned the name Bumper. He was well known for being a talented musician, singing, playing guitar, piano and also writing. He played with Burger and the Bitts back in his younger years, and even played on the local tv channel. Later he moved to the mainland and played with The Wild Pack. 

Donald moved to Ontario where he worked as a welder in Hamilton where he met his wife Barbara. Many years had passed when he and the love of his life moved back to Cape Breton, where his heart had always been. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always valued and respected animals and nature right up until his last days. One of his greatest joys was being outdoors. 

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Barbara; daughter Melanie Bradbury; siblings Cindy (George) Mullins, Gerry (Kathy) Bradbury and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special cousins, the Bonas and the Yetmans.  They grew up together so closely they were like siblings. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the care given by Dr. Chiasson, EHS, the nursing staff at Inverness Consolidated Hospital, very special neighbours and friends. 

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, 7-9 pm at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. As per Donald’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall at www.wjdooley.com
