Doreen Clancy Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, Doreen Elizabeth (Cotie) Clancy, on January 16, 2026 surrounded by her family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Doreen was born in Antigonish on July 16, 1945, and was the eldest daughter of the late Albert and Catherine “Kaye” (King) Cotie of Grand Greve, NS.

At the age of 17, Doreen began her training at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and went on to dedicate her life to caring for others. She worked in Pediatrics early in her career before spending the majority of her nursing years in Post-Operative Recovery Room, where she provided care and comfort to countless patients during their times of need.

Doreen enjoyed baking (often bringing samples to work), knitting, quilting, and spending time with her family. We cherish the many wonderful memories of our family trips to Disney World. Her family was her greatest joy. She was immensely proud of her children and raised us with values and skills that will carry on. Doreen was especially proud of Sean, her only grandchild, who gave her joy like no other could. The mere mention of his name could light up her face instantly.

In addition to her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her husband Frank Clancy and her brother Brian Cotie.

Doreen is survived by her children: Brian, Janine (John), and Fred (Ashley); her grandson, Sean; her sister, Anne (Ivan) Fowler, Halifax; and sister-in-law Marie (Frank) Oram, Dartmouth. She is also survived by aunts: Donna Boutilier, Patsy Cotie, Marie King; uncle: Jimmy King; and her nieces and nephews: Mark and Joanne Oram, Jason Fowler, and Alanna Wood.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Cremation has taken place and arrangements are under the care of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.

Donations in Doreen’s memory can be made to the War Amps of Canada or the Dialysis Unit at the Northside General Hospital.

“Where there was great love there is great grief.”
