It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Dorothy Forrest, announce her peaceful passing at the Northside General Hospital on Friday, May 5, 2023, with her son, Joey, and twin brother, Donnie, by her side after a courageous and determined three year battle with cancer.

She was born in Sydney Mines on April 29, 1961, to Stella (Collins) and the late Albert Devoe. Dorothy had the kindest heart; she was known to never say a negative word about anyone. Dorothy had a love of baking and cooking – she was a staple on the Cape Breton Cook Book. Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom, fulfilling her life's goals to take care of Joe and Joey to her utmost satisfaction. She loved flea markets and traveling the province with her husband Joe to partake in antique car shows. Dorothy was also the biggest Elvis Presley fan that you would ever meet.

Dorothy is survived by her pride and joy; son Joey (Emmaly); her mother Stella Devoe; brothers Walter (Andre), Sherman, Melvin (Darlene), Clayton (Sherri), Donnie (Nancy), and Ernie (Lisa) Devoe; sisters Paulette (Brian) McLean and Cathy (Dave) Compton; brother-in-law Tom (Janet) Forrest; sisters-in-law Myra MacDonald and Isabel Steffens; many nieces and nephews, with special niece Bonnie Petersen.

Dorothy is predeceased by the love of her life, Joe; father Albert Devoe; sister Jeannie Arsenault; brother Elmer; and three siblings in infancy. Dorothy is also predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, Stanley and Isabel ‘Babe’ Forrest; brothers-in-law James Forrest, Russel Steffens, and Myers MacDonald; and sisters-in-law Mary Quinn (Alex) and Thelma Kaiser.

We would like to thank the nurses and staff on 2 West of the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Ignacio, and Palliative Care for all your care and compassion given to Dorothy during her time there. Also, thank you to Dr. Wissam Saliba and the rest of the team at the Cape Breton Cancer Center as well as Dr. Paul Hickey and Dr. Amy Wambolt for all the care you have given Dorothy over the years.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St, North Sydney. A small prayer service will be held at the end of the visitation with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
