Dorothy Ida May (Parsons) Ross

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Dorothy Ida May Ross, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the age of 92. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Born in North Sydney on December 31, 1932, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Clarence and Susanna (Mulley) Parsons.

Dorothy is survived by her sons David (Heidi), Moncton and their children Nick (Ashley) and their sons Jeremiah and Angus, Ben (Mark) and Brittany (Martin); son Donald, Australia, and his children Joe, Lauren (Ben) and their children Anwen, Harry & Teddy, Jon (Elise) and their children Holly and Reggie and Greg; son Douglas (Susanne), Sydney Mines and their children Megan (Chris) and Liam; son Brian (Shelley), Sydney, and their children Bhreagh (Jeff) and Alex (Kennedy); also, sisters-in-law Gloria Parsons, Julie Parsons, Melissa Parsons, and Grace (Kay) Ross and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. 

Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Allister “Allie” Ross, her brothers John, James, Donald, William, and Gordon Parsons and sister Doreen Rendell, as well as in-laws Rhoda Parsons, Ross Rendell, Georgia & Douglas Allen, Lilah & Gordon Sundberg and Murdoch (Bill) Ross; also by her aunt Marion (Mamie) Johnstone, who was like a sister.

A Celebration of Life for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney, with reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Peter Poulos, Dr. Andrew Wawer and the staff of Northside General 2 West, as well as Hospice Cape Breton for their exceptional care for Dorothy over her final two months, and to Mom’s special nieces, Cathy MacLellan, Dorothy MacLellan, Sharon MacIntyre, Maureen Murphy and Patsy MacKenzie for their extraordinary love and doting over their Aunt Dot for so many wonderful years, and especially her final months.

In honor of Dorothy’s lifetime of generosity of time, encouragement and support to all, memorials in lieu of flowers for those so inclined may be made to Calvary Baptist Church ,
