Douglas Bennett Obituary

With heavy hearts filled with fond memories we say farewell to Douglas Aubrey Bennett, aged 92, loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, on June 6, 2025 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in North Sydney of November 3, 1932, Douglas was the son of the late George and Minnie (Clarke) Bennett. Douglas was a man of many artistic and entrepreneurial talents. He ran Bennett’s Signs for many years in downtown North Sydney. He was a graphic artist, a cartoonist, and a publisher of his own works of literature and music. He was a musician as well, playing the guitar and banjo in the Family Tree Band with his brothers. He lived a full life without ever taking his days on this earth for granted.

Douglas is survived by his son, Jonathan (Michelle); his grandchildren – Frankie, Johnny, and Megan; Siblings – Rodderick (Theresa), Andrew (Darlene), Irene (Dave), Donna (Lorne), and Sandra, along with sister-in-law, Annette Bennett.

Besides his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Sheila (nee MacKeigan); his son, Douglas, along with brothers, Roy and Frank.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
