It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Patricia (Keigan) Bonar, age 68, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, on Wednesday March 18, 2020 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in North Sydney on December 29, 1951, Edith was the daughter of the late Ernie and Lillian (Pearcey) Keigan.

Left to mourn is her husband of 22 years, Bill, the love of her life, her stepson Andy (Nicole) Bonar, step grandchildren Isabella and Damien.  Edith is also survived by her brothers: Bill (Rachel) Keigan, Sydney Mines, Jerry (Brenda) Keigan, Ontario, Tom (Emily) Keigan, Sydney Mines, Dave (Helen) Keigan, Ontario, Len (Angela) Keigan, Sydney Mines; her sisters: Lucy (Felix) Smith, Wagamatook, Jean Keigan (Chuck), North Sydney, Cathy (Scott) Leamon, Sydney Mines; her sister in law Debbie (Nyland) MacAskill, Millville; many nieces and nephews as well as her “fur baby” Ruby, whom she loved dearly.

Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Young, Marie Gerrow, Lilly Donovan, and Edna Devoe; her brothers Ernie and Dennis Keigan; her mother in law Maureen Bonar; her niece Susie, and her nephews Larry and Kevin.

Special thanks to Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Peter Poulos, the VON and Palliative Care nurses on 4 West of the Northside General Hospital for the special care given to Edith.

A private family funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com .
