Edith Moulton Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith Catherine Moulton, age 75, loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Edith passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15th, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in North Sydney on October 24, 1950, Edith was the daughter of the late Percy and Malida (Mauger) Thomas. She spent her working life on the water. She dedicated 30 proud years of service to Marine Atlantic, working aboard the ferries traveling between North Sydney and Port Aux Basques. Through calm crossings and stormy nights, she assisted passengers and carried out her responsibilities with care and professionalism. Known for her steady presence, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand, she earned the respect of all who sailed alongside her.

She had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, embracing every season with joy and enthusiasm. Whether she was snowshoeing through freshly fallen snow, tending to her beautiful gardens in the warmth of spring and summer, or enjoying a peaceful stroll along the shore with the sound of calming waves in the background, she found happiness in nature's simple pleasures.

Edith will be dearly missed by her daughter Dinah (Kris) McNeil, her brother Wayne (Debbie) Thomas, niece Jade (Dicel) Calulot, as well as her close friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ford James Moulton in 2014.

Among those she leaves behind is her devoted four-legged companion, Huckleberry, her beloved Blue Tick Beagle. He was more than a dog; he was family - a constant presence at her side, a faithful walking partner, and source of comfort and happiness. Their bond was one of deep affection and quiet understanding. He will miss the bond they shared.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Peter Poulos and the dedicated palliative care team, as well as the many healthcare professionals and close friends who supported Mom along her journey.

A very special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Anne Frances D'Intino and the remarkable staff at Hospice Cape Breton for their extraordinary care and compassion. Your gentle presence and genuine warmth provided peace and reassurance in her final days. We are forever grateful for the comfort and dignity you gave her.

There will be no visitation by request. A private service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, or charity of choice.
