It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Jabalee, age 86, on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, February 2, 1937, Edna was the daughter of the late Edward and Martha (Attwood) MacGillivary. Edna was a graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Glace Bay and worked as a Registered Nurse for a number of years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, the Catholic Women’s League, North Sydney Garden Club and Lingan Golf Club. Edna was a great hostess, was an excellent baker and cook and loved to entertain family and friends at her home. She enjoyed playing cards, was a talented golfer, curler, artist, and avid gardener.

Edna and Harold enjoyed travelling and every year vacationed in Florida where they made many friends.  

Edna was the loving grandmother to Erica Niemi (Derek) and Patrick Messom, great grandmother to Alyssa Niemi, also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, a relative and close family friend Mike Kasouf and her late daughters friend Bob Jensen.

Besides her parents Edna was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Harold Jabalee, by her only daughter Helen Jabalee, her granddaughter’s husband Ashley Niemi, her siblings; Edward “Sonny”, Agnes, Marcy and Elizabeth “Betty”.

A funeral mass for Edna will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday June 28th at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank, Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton or charity of choice.

Thank you to the staff at the Northside General Hospital, 4 West and 5 East for the care given to Edna and also the care givers who came to help Edna while at home.
