It is with shattered hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Edward James Skinner, age 83, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Dad passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his beloved wife by his side.
Born in North Sydney on February 17, 1937, Edward was the son of the late Edward Sr. and Mabel (Pyke) Skinner. Dad loved life and lived it to its fullest from camping at Englishtown with family and friends to hunting and fishing. He would always mark the calendar as to when the next season started. Dad was a coal miner working for Devco for several years and upon his retirement he was able to enjoy his passions even more, including woodworking and he could always be found in the shop usually covered in saw dust. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney.
He leaves behind his loving family, his beloved wife of almost 65 years Catherine “Kay” (Pero), his three sons, Ed (Liz) Skinner, Billy (Shawna) Skinner, Peter (Lisa) Skinner, two daughters Susanne (Bryan) MacPherson, all of North Sydney and Georgie Foster, Calgary, by his nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Bill (Liz) Timbury, Point Edward, sisters Carol Musgrave, PEI, Jackie Hatch, South Carolina, brother-in-law Gordon Grant, Baddeck and sister-in-law Josephine Skinner, Arizona, also many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Alan Skinner, two step-fathers John Timbury and Peter Clarke, his brother Ralph Skinner and two sisters Georgina Skinner and Helen Grant.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Edward will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney with Rev. John Hannem officiating. Covid-19 restrictions must be followed with limited seating in the church and the wearing of masks are mandatory. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
