Elaine Marsh Obituary

Elaine Marsh

North Sydney

Elaine passed away on Monday, October 18th, 2021, at the age of 72, with her daughters by her side, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease.

Born in North Sydney in 1949, Elaine grew up on Pierce Street, the daughter of the late Johnny and Marjorie (Stead) MacIntosh.  She cherished her summers spent in Truro with her cousins Diane and Peggy as they attended "Daddy Stead's" church services throughout the province. After attending the Cape Breton Business College, Elaine spent many years managing small businesses, mainly retail and gasoline stations, as well as some years with Canada Post and Citizenship & Immigration Canada. For decades, Elaine's sidekick and best friend was her mother Marge.  They were always together and shared a very special bond.

Elaine truly loved to travel to California as often as possible to spend time with her brother John.  They remained very close, even with so many miles between them.  She loved to shop while there and always returned with one extra suitcase full of gifts.  In more recent years she enjoyed visits and drives with friends, which always included something sweet.  She passed on her love of chocolate (and shopping) to her girls.  They have many fond memories of their annual shopping trips to Maine.

Nan-Elaine always had a purse full of photos of her precious grandchildren, and always a story to tell of how proud she was of them. Her love of dogs began with her childhood dog Snowflake and remained with her throughout.  Recently, interactions with the furry friends in her life became a sense of comfort for her and those around her.

She is survived by her brother John MacIntosh and his daughter Kristi of Valencia, CA; her daughters Leeann (Jeff) Higgins, Milford, NS and Diane (Michael) Sampson, Fall River, NS; the father of her children Brian Marsh; her grandchildren Halle and Reese Higgins and Claire and Chloe Sampson; and her fur baby Maggie. Elaine will be dearly missed by her longtime friends Brenda, Verna, Heather, Judy and Millie.

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her partner Tommy Capstick.

Special thanks to her new family at Windsor Elms for the amazing care and friendship, especially Ollie, Dawn, Krista, Linda and Sarah.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, October 24th. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
