Eleanor Mae Barnes

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Mae Barnes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Northside General Hospital at the age of 90.

Born on July 11, 1933 in Durrell, Twillingate Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lillian (Price) Pond. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Eleanor grew up in Newfoundland before marrying and moving to North Sydney where she was a proud and dedicated wife and mother. She was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney.

Eleanor leaves behind her loving husband of 71 years, Willoughby; her sons – Norm (Michele Chisholm), Jim (Audrey), Tony (Sharon); daughter in law, Connie Barnes; grandchildren – Ingrid, Lee, James (Shealyn), Jenna, Kelly, and great-grandchildren, Aidan and Luna; sister in law, Linda Pond, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings – Norm Pond, Phebe Halloway, and Roy Pond.

There will be a public visitation for Eleanor from 1 to 2pm on Wednesday, December 27 with a funeral service immediately following at 2pm in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating.
