Elizabeth "Nelda" Melda (MacKinnon) Dominix

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Nelda” Melda Dominix on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the age of 65, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Born in North Sydney on August 6, 1959, Nelda was the daughter of Sandra (Connolly) MacKinnon and the late John Archie MacKinnon.

To her many friends, Nelda was much loved as she was kind and thoughtful and would do anything for anyone.  She loved to play darts and was an avid volunteer in her community.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 19, and a volunteer for the Lion’s Club.  Nelda was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

Nelda is survived by her mother Sandra MacKinnon; son Shane Dominix; daughters Lurlene Dominix and Amanda (Vincent) Boucher-Dominix; grandchildren Andrew (Tamara), Sabin (Felicity), Seth, Des-ree, Dustin, Aria and Kaylee; great-grandchildren Dustin and Ikora.  Nelda is also survived by her brothers John MacKinnon, Ronnie (Pauline) MacKinnon, Freddie MacKinnon; sisters Bridgette (Steve) MacLean and Christine MacKinnon. Nelda is also survived by her special friends Rhonda King and Yvonne Simmonds.

Besides her father, Nelda was predeceased by her brother Richard MacKinnon.

A visitation for Nelda will be held from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, July 9, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 10, at the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
