Elmer Theodore Marsh

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Elmer Theodore Marsh, on Monday, September 23rd, 2024. 

Born on August 19th, 1934, he was the son of the late John William and Elsie (Devoe) Marsh. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Georgina Marsh (Crowther).

Elmer enjoyed many outings with friends, whether it be hunting, fishing, dancing or playing 45s at the local card games.  In their later years, you could find both him and Gina travelling throughout the Maritimes in their motor home attending the many music festivals.

As a proud fisherman for many years, one of his favorite stories to tell was about the time he singlehandedly landed a 450 lb swordfish. He proudly displayed the sword in his home and was always eager to share the story of his adventures.

Elmer is survived by his children, Sherri Marsh, Scott (Lois) Marsh, Charmaine (Lloyd) Cox, Shauna (Todd) Collins and Blair (Alyssa) Marsh. He is also survived by his grandchildren Leah, Shanon, Lily, Paige, Michael, Brayden, Rebecca, Alex, and Carson, along with four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Cyril, and sisters Connie Zammit and Joan Fraser.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their kindness and care over the last year, as well as the nurses in the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in his final days.

A Celebration of Life (open house) for both Elmer and Georgina will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Georges River Fire Hall.  All are invited to attend.  Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.  Online condolences for the family can be left on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
