Emerson Walter Blagdon

It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Emerson Blagdon, on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Emerson was born in North Sydney on July 4, 1947, to the late Henry and Julia (Barnes) Blagdon.  Emerson spent 38 years serving his community as a police officer with the Cape Breton Regional Police Force (formally the North Sydney Police Force).  He was a member of St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

Emerson is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bessie (Lane), his two children; daughter Loriann (Shane) and his son Shaun.  He is also survived by his brothers John and Lenny, grandchildren Erica (Cory), Bryanna and Matthew; a great-granddaughter and one on the way.

We would like to thank the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for their care over the past two years.

Visitation for Emerson will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Friday, August 8, 2025, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating.  Donations in Emerson’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Cancer Society.  Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
