It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Emily (Musgrave) Irvine, last surviving member of her immediate family, on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney, with Lyd and Val by her side.

Born in Leitches Creek, NS, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Jennie (Nolan) Musgrave.

Emily and her husband Tom lived for many years in St. Catharines, ON before retiring to Cape Breton, where they became active volunteers in their community. They were involved in Kiwanis and the Meals on Wheels program, Palliative Care in North Sydney and Sydney, as well as the Laryngectomy support group. Emily loved to entertain and was happiest when she was feeding a house full of family and friends.

Emily is survived by her stepson Robert (Diane) Irvine, a step granddaughter and two step great grandsons all of Quebec; her niece Lydwin (David) MacDonald, Leitches Creek, grand niece Leah MacDonald, Leitches Creek; cousin, Valerie Baxendale, Georges River; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces , grand nephews, cousins and her best friend, Pearl (Lloyd) Campbell, Halifax.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Irvine; brothers, Fred, Lloyd, Cyril and Cyril James in infancy, as well as her sister Kay MacDonald.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for the care and compassion shown to Emily over the past few years.

At Emily’s request, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Frenchvale, NS.

Memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or a charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
