It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of Eric William Sibley, age 84, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, on April 14, 2023, at his home in North Sydney.

Born in North Sydney on April 7, 1939, Eric was the son of the late George and Irene (Hatcher) Sibley. Eric was well known as a salesman and manager with Lubetski Furniture store and later Schwartz Furniture, a career which spanned 45 years. Eric will be remembered for his meticulous organization, a fondness for a good game of cribbage, and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, by far the two greatest passions in his life were, first and foremost, his family, but followed closely by his beloved New York Yankees. He was a true die-hard fan, and Doris and the children were along for the ride as well, watching and even travelling together to see live games in different cities. He had collected many cherished mementoes of the team over the years, just as there are many treasured memories with his wife and family.

Eric is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of nearly 63 years, Doris (Haggett); his children – Blair (Teresa), Wendy (Eugene) MacIntyre, Stephen (Crystal), and Karen Sibley; his grandchildren – Amanda (Peter), Taylor (Chris), Andrew, Ashely (Mark), Danielle (Bruce), Rebecca, Breton, Alex, Daniel, Kristen, and William; his great-grandchildren – Ellis and Cody, as well as brother-in-law, Herman O’Connell.

Besides his parents, Eric was predeceased by his son, Darren, a son in infancy known as Baby Sibley, and his sister, Joyce O’Connell.

A visitation for Eric will be held from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, April 19, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St. in North Sydney, with a funeral service immediately following at 4:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Lakeside Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
