Ernest MacIntosh Obituary

Ernest David MacIntosh, of Baddeck, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born March 17, 1960, to the late Donald and Eleanor (Farquhar) MacIntosh, Ernie was a proud, lifelong resident of Baddeck. He attended Baddeck Academy before embarking on a 40-year career with the Department of Transportation as a skilled equipment operator. Even in retirement, Ernie’s steadfast work ethic remained; he was always the first to answer a call when an extra hand or a talented operator was needed.

Ernie loved his community and was a reliable friend to many. He loved to reminisce about his early days on the outdoor rink, his time on the fastball pitch, or sailing on the lake and competing during Regatta week. His commitment to his community was unwavering, serving as a dedicated volunteer for Baddeck Minor Hockey—whether coaching, driving, or fundraising—and as a retired volunteer firefighter. An active member of the Crowdis Mountain Snowmobile Club, he was never happier than when out on the groomer, ensuring the trails were perfect for others.

Though he could be famously stubborn, Ernie had a heart of gold and a legendary deep chuckle that filled the room. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sharing a good story or a laugh when the time permitted.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Kyle (Amanda) and Courtney, furry companion Bella, and his cherished grandchildren, Maeve and Malone. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Heather) and Frank, sister Alice (Wayne), and special cousin Carol MacKinley. He leaves behind a large extended family, including sisters-in-law Sally MacDonald (Norman) and Carol MacAulay, brothers-in-law Allan MacLean (Barbara), and Buddy (Maria) MacLean, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents Donald and Eleanor, in-laws Robert and Margaret MacLean, sister Dot MacKenzie, brother-in-law Skip MacKenzie, and brother-in-law Mervyn MacAulay.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and support. A special thanks to Dr. Genge, Dr. Trebo, Dr. Woodford, Dr. Ritter, Paulette, Sharon, and to the doctors and staff at the Cancer Center. Also, to our special nurses Sally and Heather. Heartfelt thanks also go to the many friends and family members whose presence and help provided comfort to Ernie and his family throughout this journey.
