It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Esther Helen Swan.  Esther passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Northside Community Guest Home.

She was born in East River, St. Marys on December 12, 1929, to the late Edward and Laura (Tucker) Gunn.  Esther was well known on the Northside for a number of years as co-owner of Ellen’s Town & Country Fashion, Ladies Wear with her late husband George.

She is survived by her three daughters, Dawn Cross (Mark) Woodman, Cheryl Chambers and Ellen MacLellan (Rick), her seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Cross (Nadia), Christopher Ellis (Tammy), Timothy Cross (Dallas), Michael Cross (Ashley), Shannon Ellis (Greg), Miranda and Mitchel MacLellan.  She also leaves behind her seven great-grandchildren, Kennedy and London Cross, Ryleigh and Logan Cross, Lark Cross, Marley Ellis and Cohen MacLellan.  Also surviving are her two sisters Heather Cameron (Glen), Catherine “Kay” McInnis, her brother Alfred Gunn (Arlene), many beloved nieces, nephews and close friends. 

Esther touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered for her kind heartedness.

We wish to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, for their continued care these past three years, friends and neighbors who cared for and watched over her in the last years in her home.  Your kindness will not be forgotten.

There will be no visitation.  The family will be holding a celebration of life from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 82 Pierce Street, (The Sleeping Swan Bed & Breakfast), North Sydney.
