Evelyn Christine MacRitchie

We regret to announce the death of Evelyn Christine MacRitchie, R.N., age 94, which occurred on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.

Born in Englishtown on May 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Marion (Buchanan) MacRitchie.

Evelyn is survived by her sisters, Katherine Robinson, Angie Smith and Ishbel (Dave) Hatcher. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by brothers-in-law Bob Robinson and Raymond Smith.

Evelyn was a member of St. Ann’s Bay United Church and served on many committees. She was a graduate of the Hamilton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a member of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Nova Scotia. During her career she was employed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, North Sydney and retired from the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax in 1991. Evelyn was a member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Alumnae and the Retired Nurses Interest Group of Cape Breton. She was also an active member of the Englishtown Historical Society.

In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A family burial will take place at a later date. Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to St. Ann’s Bay United Church or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to Dr. Roland Genge and all the staff at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck for their care, comfort and compassion during Evelyn’s stay at the hospital.
