It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved dad, Fred R. Patterson, age 92, on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, just five weeks after our mom Eleanor passed away.
Fred was born in Sydney Mines on October 31, 1931 to the late Charles and Jessie (Higdon) Patterson but grew up in North Sydney and was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Lorette and Louis Higdon. Fred was a member and Elder of St. Matthew Wesley United Church where he was very involved and volunteered for many events within the church. He had a great interest in sports and especially enjoyed bowling, darts, and horseshoes. He never seemed to win much but was always regarded as “The Most Sportsmanlike.”
He is survived by his two children Nancy (Donnie) White and Glenn (Mia) Patterson, his grandchildren Kevin (Amy) White, Curtis (Sharon) White, Thomas (Jenene) White, Kyle Patterson (Paige), Travis Patterson, and Olivia Patterson (David); his great-grandchildren Madison, Ian, Adelaide, Cecilia, Alice and Mya White, Lincoln and Lylah Patterson.
Besides his parents Charles and Jessie, his aunt and uncle Lorette and Louis Higdon, Fred was also predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor on July 6, 2024 and his sister Corrine Brown.
A visitation for Fred will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Marjorie Serafinus officiating with burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will follow the funeral and burial at the Georges River Fire Hall.
