Gary E. Brooks
North Sydney
It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we, the family announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many, Gary Ellis Brooks, age 59, at home on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
Born and raised in North Sydney, on April 24, 1960, he was the son of Joan (Fitzgerald) Brooks and the late Irvin Brooks. Gary spent his early childhood summers sailing at the Northern Yacht Club, where he went on to become an active member and served on the board there. He joined the Canadian Militia during high school, served as a driver in Germany and was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19 in North Sydney.
Gary was a dedicated worker who started his career with Nova Scotia Power in Halifax, then Point Tupper in Port Hawkesbury and finished working at the Point Aconi Power Plant, close to home.
A gentle soul with a heart of gold, Gary enjoyed a game of crib, a good crossword puzzle and spending time grabbing a coffee with his good friend Glen Buis.
Gary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his mother Joan Brooks, his sister Lynn (Ronnie) Ivey, his brothers Ward (Debbie) Brooks, Jason (Amy) Brooks, also adored nieces Carly and Haley Ivey, beloved nephews Jason, Brandon and Kayden Brooks and great-grandniece Abigail.
He was predeceased by his loving father Irvin Brooks in 2006, as well as his much loved
sister-in-law, Maxine Young.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service for Gary will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.
