George James Davis

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of George James Davis, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Born in Sydney Mines on April 26, 1938, George was the son of the late George and Dorothy (Waye) Davis. George had many different jobs during his life, most notably as a foreman with H.B. Nickerson & Sons fish-plant, and was the owner and operator of George’s Fish Market for many years. He also served the community as a volunteer firefighter and volunteer police officer.

George is survived by his sons – George (Wanda), John (Colleen), Harley (Laurie), and Eric (Jolene); grandchildren – Catherine, Kyle (Amanda), Chad (Kayla), Hannah, Chelsea (Kyle), George, and Randy (Kristen); great-grandchildren – Hailey, Georgie, Ava, Nash, Annie Mae, Owen, Emersyn, Walker, Willow, and a Baby Boy on the way. He is further survived by his siblings – Felicia, Blanche, and Eddie. 

Along with his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne; siblings Donna and Billy, along with great-grandson Colson (son of Chad Davis).  

There will be a graveside service for George at 2pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Trinity Anglican Cemetery on Tobin Rd. in Sydney Mines with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page.  Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
