George Day
Balls Creek
With profound sadness, we the family announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, George Frederick Day. George passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the age of 71.
Born in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland on November 12, 1952, George was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Evans) Day. George served as a training officer with 562 Cabot Air Cadet Squadron with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He also volunteered with Victoria County Recreation as an umpire and leader with the Boularderie Little League. George received many awards for his time and commitment to the youth who participated over the years. He worked for over 15 years with the Steel Bridge Department before his retirement. He had a great love for fishing and the outdoors.
George had a great love for his wife Judy. They were an inseparable team, totally dedicated to each other, in love and in life. They faced more than their share of challenges over the years. They stood fast, drew strength from each other, and as a result they became stronger as a couple.
George is survived by his wife Judy (Dolomont) Day; his daughters - Heather Griesmer, Millville and Kristina (Dennis) Pyke, Balls Creek; grandchildren - Bram, Brad, and Ben; brother – Calvin, Ronnie, Joe, and Ward.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brother Willie.
A visitation for George will be held from 1pm to 3pm on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
