With heartfelt sadness, we the family, announce the passing of our beloved father, George "Brother" David Forrest, age 84 on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney Mines on May 31, 1934, George was the son of the late Mary Matilda (MacDonald) and George Forrest.  Dad was a very hard worker.  He was a coal miner employed with Devco for 40 years.  He was well liked and loved by all who crossed his path. He was a warrior who fought and won all his battles until this final battle which he couldn’t fight any longer. George loved to go for drives around town until recently in the last few weeks, he couldn’t go any more.

Surviving are his children Monica Ann (Kenny) Walsh, Leo Forrest, both of Sydney Mines, Georgina (Brian) Watson, Lloydminster, AB/SK, Karen Forrest (John Seaman), Rhonda Forrest, Blair (Debbie) Forrest, Wayne (Shirley) Forrest, Julie Keeping (David) all of North Sydney, Albert (Jennifer) Forrest, Michelle Forrest (Dwayne), both of Lower Sackville, Joseph (Rosemary) Woods, Sydney Mines; his grandchildren Lee, Kiana, Kendra, Terrilynn, Kimberly, Caelin, Michael, Shannon, Brody, Ethan, Josh, Kristen and two very special grandchildren Gracie and Owen, whom he lived with, also by grandson Fabian Woods and special grandson Richie Newman and many great-grandchildren.  George is also survived by his sisters Bessie Pardy, Florence, NS, Margaret Phillipo, London, ON, Catherine Hurridge, Sydney Mines, brother Sidney Forrest, Northside Guest Home, his daughter-in-law Janice Eady, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents George was predeceased by his loving wife Anna Eileen (Phalen), his father and mother-in-law Leo and Euphemia Phalen, his brothers Angus, James, John “Pally”, his sisters Libby and Dorothy, sons-in-law Rean Evans and Jason Keeping.

The family would like to thank Dr. Knott and the Palliative Care nurses on 4West at the Northside General Hospital.

Visitation for George will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
