Gloria Donna (Dolomount) Allen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Donna Allen (Dolomount), age 84, on December 28 in Sydney Mines.

Born in Glace Bay on August 29, 1940, growing up in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, the daughter of the late James and Mary Anne (Strickland) Dolomount. After graduating from the Cape Breton Business College, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Thompson & Sutherland and later for National Sea in North Sydney. Gloria also volunteered for many years with Revenue Canada helping seniors complete their income tax returns.  She was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney, a member of the Church Altar Guild and a founding member of St. John Anglican Church Mothers Union.  Gloria and her husband Dennis enjoyed camping and later travelling together throughout Canada and the United States.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Dennis, her two sons Scott (Chanda), Jeffery (Dianna), her sister Annie Hardy, her brother Ron (Eudevilla),  brother-in-law Sheldon (Judy) and sister-in-law Yvonne.

In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother Gerald and his wife Ignatia, brothers-in-law Roland and Terry.

She is also survived by her nephews Robert, George, Mark, Jamie, Bradley, Anthony, Thomas and her nieces Mary, Paula, Renee, Gail, Denise and a number of grand nieces and nephews, including her special grand-niece Tanya and special grand-nephew Robbie.

Cremation has taken place.  A visitation for Gloria will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating.  Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John The Baptist Anglican Church or Alzheimer Society.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary.
