With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt and friend, Gloria "Goldie" Bona, age 93, at Miners' Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines on Thursday, August 21, 2025, with loving family at her side. Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (Leblanc) Blinkhorn.
She was a resident of Miners' Memorial Manor since December 2018. Gloria was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church North Sydney. She was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years but after getting her driver's license later in life, she began working as a sales associate at Woolco Department Store, Sydney River where she met and made many good friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and was an avid skater. She kept her mind sharp with reading, doing word puzzles, bingo, and loved playing cards.
Leaving to mourn are her daughters, Julie (Judson Wall) Little Bras d' Or and Nancy (Brian Joseph) River Ryan; sons, Albert, Edwardsville, Terry (Linda), St. Albert, Alberta, Ronnie (Doris), Victoria, BC; daughter-in-law, Colleen, North Sydney; six grandchildren, Amanda, Geoffrey, Daniel, Katie, Justine, and Sarah, and four great grandchildren, Dante, Nash, Ace, and Kane. Also surviving are her sisters, Marcella O'Brien and Doreen Pentecost, her brothers, Harry, Bernard, Billy, Bobby and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her husband George (Googer), her son, David; brothers, Lawrence and David, and sisters, Shirley MacNeil, Mary Nearing, and Lorraine Nugent.
We would like to thank Dr. Irene Osagie for her continuous care and the amazing staff at Miners' Memorial Manor who made mom feel at home every day.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at W.J.
