It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Elizabeth Boutlier on February 16, 2026 at the age of 54. Born on September 23, 1971, she was the daughter of the late Frank Matthews and Donna Boutilier.
Anyone that knew Gloria knew that she had a heart of gold and would do anything she could to help someone in need. Many will remember Gloria from her younger years working at Sealanes Bingo, and in later years from her time at Pierce St. Dairy, where she met the love of her life, Jamie Johnston. Gloria later worked up the courage to go back to school and become an RCW, one of her proudest accomplishments, until unfortunately her health took her away from being able to work.
Left to mourn is her daughter, Amanda Haycox (Dave); brother-in-law John George Johnston; sister-in-law Kelly McIntyre; niece Julia Johnston (Steven); nephew Johnny Johnston (Kelsey). She is further survived by her best friend of many years, Keila Lush-Gardiner (Ken) and Keila’s children, Hannah and Riley, whom she loved like her own. She is also survived by her special aunt Margaret MacDonald, and her longtime childhood friend, Tracey Odo, as well as many other family members and friends that will miss Gloria dearly.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by the love of her life, Jamie Johnston; grandparents Poppy Tine and Nanny Helen, as well as her mother-in-law, Angeline.
Many thanks are extended to the staff at Northside General Hospital, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, VON and Home Care, especially Mary whom she adored. A special thanks to Jean Ann for everything she did for Gloria over the past few years. She was truly Gloria's angel on earth.
A visitation for Gloria will be held from 7-9pm on Saturday Feb 21, 2026 at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St. in North Sydney. Burial will follow at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the CNIB or a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
