It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Gloria Jean (Matthews) MacIntyre; beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Gloria passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Gloria was born on March 8, 1947, to the late Loretta (Galpin) and Isadore Matthews. Gloria enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid card player. She, with her husband James, ran a card game (cribbage) for many years, at the North Sydney Fire Hall, and the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 19), where she made many lifelong friends. In summer you could find Mom out in a blueberry patch for hours – “no berry left behind” was her motto.
Gloria is survived by the love of her life, and soulmate, James. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 26, 2025 – having been together for 64 years. A lifetime of love, adventure and laughs – truly best friends.
Gloria and James’ children: April Sainthill (Donnie), Belinda MacIntyre (Bill), Amanda Wall (Lenny), Donna Gracie (Neil), Jimmy MacIntyre (Marianne), Amelia MacIntyre, Ken MacIntyre, Victoria Bain (Josh). Grandchildren: Taylor (predeceased), Matthew, David, Brendon, Jimmy, Blake, Danielle, Joe, Kyle, Shania, Andrew, Faith, Jordon, Grace and Ivy; along with her many loved great-grandchildren. Gloria is also survived by her loving sister Marie (Bill) McKee, sisters-in-law Margie Wall, Tina (Wally) Gracie, and special sister-in-law Sharon (Vince) Garnier; Aunt Wilma (Jim) Rose, and brothers-in-law Billy (Suzanne) MacIntyre and Sheldon (Gloria) MacIntyre, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by daughter Sharon Darlene, and her cherished granddaughter Taylor Sainthill, who was waiting with open arms. Also, her sisters Lynn Parks, Kathleen (Kay) Baker; her brothers Frank and Jim (Diamond Jim) Matthews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. There will be no services for Mom in accordance with her wishes. Her family and close friends will honor her memory and celebrate her life privately. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
“Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.”
