Gordon Roy Hillier

It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Gordon Roy Hillier, on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Northside General Hospital, at the age of 90.

Gord was born in North Sydney on June 3, 1935, to the late Joshua and Jessica (Hickey) Hillier. He was a long- time employee of Marine Atlantic retiring after 47 years of service. Gord was a very quiet man who loved spending time with his wife, Margaret, his children and grand-children. He enjoyed spending time in his garage. He will be missed but never forgotten. Gord was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.

Gord is survived by his loving wife Margaret (MacDonald) Hillier. This upcoming November they would have been married for 69 years. Dad is also survived by his daughters; Cynthia, Karan (Gary) Hunt, Kim (Sandy) McInnis, Cheryl (Joseph) Boudreau: his son Lloyd (Pam) Hillier; his sister June Johnston; son-in-law Robert Moulton; his grandchildren Trent, Danielle, Lindsay, Kayla, Felicia, Jessica and Mary; Pops is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Gord was predeceased by his daughter Denise Moulton; his grandson Jason Cameron; brothers Cecil (Rita) Hillier, William (Evelyn) Hillier, Shirley (Pauline) Hillier; sister Blanche (John) Oats; brother-in-law Walter Johnston. The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Wawer and the staff on 5E at the Northside General Hospital for their compassion and care shown to Gordon. 

Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, on Wednesday, August 27, at 2 pm, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. All are invited to attend a reception following the funeral mass at Branch 19 Royal Canadian Legion, Archibald Avenue, North Sydney. The funeral mass will be live-streamed on the W.J. Dooley Facebook page. Memorial donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank.  

A private family burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
