Later he was President of the Antigonish and Sydney Kinsmen clubs.  He then served as Deputy Governor for Cape Breton Island, Governor for the Kinsmen Association of Atlantic Canada, National Service Director for the Kinsmen Association of Canada and he achieved his most cherished award in 1988, Life Member of the Kinsmen Association of Canada.

In his early days, Greg loved to play hockey, golf and curling. He was President of the Seaview Curling Club and Sydney Curling Club. He was a beloved member of his community who tirelessly volunteered his time to help others. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He possessed a generous heart that had a positive impact on everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Shirley (Bungay), who provided him with a life of unconditional and constant love. He was always her number one priority. By his sisters: Diane (Greg) Nickerson, Valerie (Danny) Smith, his brothers; Merino (Linda), Jim (Davina), Michael, Ron (Beth) and Pat (Diane), brother-in-law Bill (Ada) Bungay, also a number of nieces and nephews.
