Gregory J. DiPersio

Sydney

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Gregory Julian DiPersio, age 74, beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney on April 15, 1946, Greg was the son of the late Patrick and Lillian (Julian) DiPersio.  Greg worked for a number of years at Ideal Ice Cream, as manager of Niagara Finance Company in Antigonish and later for Same Day Courier until his retirement.  Greg was a proud Kinsmen throughout his life.  He joined the Kinsmen Club of North Sydney in 1969. Later he was President of the Antigonish and Sydney Kinsmen clubs.  He then served as Deputy Governor for Cape Breton Island, Governor for the Kinsmen Association of Atlantic Canada, National Service Director for the Kinsmen Association of Canada and he achieved his most cherished award in 1988, Life Member of the Kinsmen Association of Canada.

In his early days, Greg loved to play hockey, golf and curling. He was President of the Seaview Curling Club and Sydney Curling Club. He was a beloved member of his community who tirelessly volunteered his time to help others. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He possessed a generous heart that had a positive impact on everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Shirley (Bungay), who provided him with a life of unconditional and constant love. He was always her number one priority. By his sisters: Diane (Greg) Nickerson, Valerie (Danny) Smith, his brothers; Merino (Linda), Jim (Davina), Michael, Ron (Beth) and Pat (Diane), brother-in-law Bill (Ada) Bungay, also a number of nieces and nephews. Also by his extended family of friends in their Dinner Club, Walter, Deborah, Tom, Donna, Bill, Millie, John and Toni who gathered every month for the past thirty years.

Besides his parents Patrick and Lillian DiPersio, Greg was predeceased by his nephew Derek DiPersio.

Memories of his spirit and warmth will always be with us and his love will live on in our hearts forever.
