Harold Roy Bennett
It is with great sadness, we the family of Harold Roy Bennett announce his passing on Tuesday, September 28th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at his home in North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 31, 1945, to the late George Bennett (Benoit) and Minni (Clarke).
A retired Sydney Steel worker of 36 years, most days, Poppy could be found chatting with his friends at Tim Hortons, afternoons picking his guitar at local guest homes and church functions and evenings carting his grandchildren around and spending time with family and friends.
Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years Annette (Day); son Chad (Dianna); grandsons Bradley and Nicholas. He is also survived by his brothers, Douglas, Roderick (Theresa), Andrew (Darlene) and sisters, Ethel Hillier, Irene Robertson (Dave), Sandra Andrews (Stuart) and Donna Edmunds.
He was predeceased by his daughter Lucinda in infancy; brothers Frank, Kenneth and sisters Mary, Linda and Joan.
We would like to thank Dr. Peter Poulos, Dr. Alexander Wawer, Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Khodadad, Cape Breton Cancer Center, Palliative care and VON for the care of Roy during this difficult time. You have all been a blessing to us.
Cremation has taken place and a visitation for Roy will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m on Friday in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Covid-19 restrictions will be in place in the funeral home and at the church with the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating for the funeral.
Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
