It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of Hugh Thomas Drake, age 63, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at his home.

Born in North Sydney on July 4, 1958, Hughie was the son of the late Cornelius and Catherine (Wilkie) Drake.  For many years Hughie was a driver for Jardine’s Taxi until and also Central Amusements until accident forced him to retire.  He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan, he enjoyed playing softball and bowling but most of all he loved spending time with family especially his two daughters.

Hughie is survived by his common law wife Cynthia Perry, his daughters Terilyn and Lindsey, sisters Debbie (Terry) Jessome, Lynn (Alex) Finlayson, brother Brian (Bev), sisters-in-law Pam Nicholson and Deborah Rogers, several nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Sally Perry and special cousin Georgie (LeRoy) Musgrave.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Rick Nicholson and father-in-law William “Bunny” Perry.  

The family would like to thank Dr. O’Grady for taking such good care of Hughie over the years, Dr. Morrison and staff in CCU at the Cape Breton Regional hospital and also, the first responders who came to our home in the early hours of Hughie’s sudden passing.

Visitation for Hugh will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Lewis officiating.  Covid-19 restrictions will be in place in the funeral home with Proof of Vaccine, NS Photo Identification and wearing of masks.
