George’s River

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Irene Hill, age 65, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Sydney Mines on August 20, 1955, Irene was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Wilkie) Mulley. She was employed as an LPN for several years until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Irene is survived by her husband, Harold “Hal” Hill; her two sons,  Steven (Susan White) and Adam (Shannon Laffin); her three precious grandchildren; Lucy, Mabel, and Charlotte; her sisters Marlene (Ian) MacLean, Colleen (John) Roberts, and Kim Young; brothers and sisters in-law Linda (David) Lovett, Pearl (Willard) Brown, Neil (Diane) Hill, Luke (Lisa) Hill, Kenneth (Janice Murray) Hill, Darlene (Jack) Burton, Deborah (Donnie) Eavis, Yvonne (Terry) Eavis, Wanda (John) Capstick, and Michelle (Mark) Williams. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, most especially Lexie and Mackayla Williams.

Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her brother Donald Mulley and her brother in-law Scott Young.

Irene loved nothing more than spending time with her nieces, nephews and granddaughters. especially on hot summer days at the poolside. Irene’s family was her greatest source of happiness and reading to her granddaughters was some of her most treasured times. She was active in her community helping with the Georges River Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary, even though she wasn’t a member. Her positivity, strength and thoughtfulness endeared her to so many. Everyone who knew her loved her.

A special thanks to her greatest advocate, Dr. Poulos, the post liver transplant team and the staff in the ICU, 4a and 4b units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Their care and compassion meant so much to Irene and her family.
