James Duncan Grant

It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Duncan Grant, age 75, on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Born in Sydney Mines on February 26, 1950, James was the son of the late John and Margaret (Morrison) Grant. 

He is survived by his partner, Carolyn Grant-Thurbide; his two sons Christopher (Ashley Pare) and John Grant; his grandchildren Tyson James Grant and Natalie Theriault; his good friend Linda, his cousins; Janette (Nelson Edge), Rhoda (John) MacLean, Ann MacDonald, Alex Nicholson, Clark Nicholson, Marie Gregoris and Audrey Nicholson. Great friends Roy Maclean, Dave MacKay and many more.

James loved hockey and was a big Chicago Blackhawks fan. He coached hockey and baseball and was well known around the community as a great guy. He spent 35 years working for Castle Building Supplies (Rona), In Sydney, where he worked with some great people and made life long friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary.
