It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jimmy” MacNeil age 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend on Saturday March 6, 2021 at his home.
Born in Boisdale, January 12, 1935, Jimmy was the son of the late John and Mary Agnes (MacLean) MacNeil. He was employed as a long-haul trucker with Liquid Carbonic Canada for many years prior to retirement. He was a native Gaelic speaker and enjoyed the Gaelic immersion weekends at the Gaelic College. Jimmy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching wrestling, playing cribbage, darts and horseshoes. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, a former member of St. Andrews Church, Boisdale.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Ann (Gouthro) MacNeil, a son Ronald Michael MacNeil, North Sydney, daughter Mary Frances MacNeil (Greg Williams), New South Wales, Australia, grandchildren Christena Liles, Aaron Tjan and two great grandchildren, brother John Malcolm (Eva) MacNeil, Howie Centre, sisters-in-law Anne Marie MacNeil and Carmella MacLean, also a number of nieces, nephews and dear close friend Florence MacIsaac.
Besides his parents Jimmy was predeceased by three brothers Kenneth MacNeil, Ronald Michael MacNeil and Joe MacLean.
A private visitation will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St Joseph Church with Rev Doug MacDonald officiating. Covid-19 restrictions must be followed with wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating will be available in the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Frenchvale at a later date.
