It is with sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, James Francis O’Handley, on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, at the age of 88.

Born in North Sydney on October 10, 1934, James was the son of the late John and Catherine (Gillis) O’Handley.  He worked for CN Rail for 40 years as a track maintainer.  James enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to the beach. He loved reading and tinkering around fixing things.  He was an avid sports fan, and loved to watch hockey, baseball and boxing on television.

James is survived by his sons James Jr., John and Donnie, his daughter Judy O’Handley, his grandchildren Crystal, John, Olivia and Catherine, and by his great-grandchildren Cameron, Keigan, John Koen, and Paisley.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Anna "Annie" (Pickles) O’Handley, his daughter Cathy; brothers Archie, Angus Joseph (AJ), sisters Catherine Long, Mary Margaret Andert and Sadie Hall.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Visitation for James will be held from 7-9 pm, Friday, September 22, 2023 at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 23, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.  Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will follow at the Branch 19 Legion in North Sydney.
