James Edward “Ed” LeBlanc, age 65, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 27, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

Born in Sydney on February 13, 1958, he was the son of the late George and Agnes (Poirier) LeBlanc.  Ed was employed at Cape Breton University (UCCB) for many years; first as an I.T. analyst and later as an instructor in the Bachelor of Information Technology program.  He recently retired from Citizenship and Immigration.  Ed enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his cherished grandchildren.  

Dad will be greatly missed and forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Paula (Brothers) LeBlanc, his three sons Michael (Teri), Edmonton, AB, Matthew (Kim), Strathmore, AB, Justin (Britney), Georges River, NS.  He was a wonderful Papa to his beloved grandchildren Jayna, Emma, Elaina, Seth, Zoey and Gabriel.  Ed is also survived by his brothers Joe (Helen) LeBlanc, Sydney, Wilfred LeBlanc, Alberta, sister Anne Marie LeBlanc, Truro, sister-in-law Valerie LeBlanc, Sydney and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed was pre-deceased by his brother Tommy and grandniece Nikole.

We want to express our sincere thanks to the many kind and caring staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care unit.  We would also like to thank Dad’s family physician of many years, Dr. Peter Poulos.

Cremation has taken place.  A funeral mass will be celebrated for Ed at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
