It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Richard Reid Dominey, age 72, on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Stephenson Crossing, Newfoundland on December 5, 1950, Richard was the son of Ruth (Reid) Dominey and of the late Gerald Dominey. He was employed with Marine Atlantic for forty-eight years, working first as a stevedore and then later aboard the vessels.

Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed playing darts and reading many books, also he was the biggest fan of the Montreal Canadiens.

Besides his mother Ruth Dominey, North Sydney, Richard is survived by his wife Joanne Dominey, sisters; Marilyn (Lou) LeBlanc, Maxine Dominey, brothers; Stewart (Karen) Dominey and Sterling (Wendy) Dominey, a number of grandchildren, step-sons Michael and Roy Latter, close friends Freddie Gale, Stan and Trudy Flynn, Janet Wilkie and Carol, also by his four legged companion Si.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Richard and the family.
