The family of Jean Fiander regret to announce her sudden passing on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the Northside Community Guest Home, at the age of 89.

Born in Diamond Cove, NL on September 6, 1934, Jean was the daughter of the late William and Winnifred (Harvey) Brown.  Jean married Joe on July 11, 1952 and made their home in North Sydney where they raised their six children.  Jean worked as a lunch lady at Seton School for several years where everyone knew her as “Miss”.  Jean was a member of St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, the Eastern Star Munroe Chapter, a former member of St. John’s ACW, Married Couples and the North Sydney Pensioners Club.

Jean is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe; her six children - Eric (Jane), Harvey Station, NB, Phyllis (Jim) MacLean, Howie Centre, Joanne (Dennis) Parsons, Dartmouth, Paul (Carmel) Miramichi, NB, Joe (Cindy), Lynons Brook, NS and Philip (Barb), Rose Blanche.  Nanny Jean was the best grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, special nephew Clarence Brown, special nieces Linda Dolomont, Diane Brown and best friend Dulcie Best.

Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Eric, Clarence, Albert, Art, Tom and sister Fan.

Visitation for Jean will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21st at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Canon Reg MacDonald and Reid Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church Fund.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com
