It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jean Winnifred Ivey, age 85, on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in North Sydney, January 3, 1935, Jean was the daughter of the late Gordon and Bridget (Audoux) Maxwell.

She was a member of Holy Family Church in Sydney Mines and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19, North Sydney. She enjoyed playing darts in the ladies league at the North Sydney Fire Hall and bingo games at the North Sydney Pensioners Club.

She is survived by her children, Bruce Ivey and Corinne Ivey, both of North Sydney; George Ivey, AB, Elizabeth “Betty” Ivey, BC, James Ivey (Heather Young), Sydney Mines; her grandchildren, Angie Targett, David Ivey, Beverly (Jonathan) Newell, Cheryl Pearcey (Dave Crowdis), Megan Pearcey, (Mike Latter), Ashley Pearcey (John Johnston), Cheyenne Ivey, Jessie James Ivey and Colby Ivey; great grandchildren, Summer MacAulay, Taylor MacAulay, Lucy Newell, Theo Newell, Lily Crowdis, Charlee Lynn Crowdis; her sister, Peggy MacIsaac, North Sydney; two brothers, Jack Maxwell, ON, Bob Maxwell, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Ron Ivey; sisters-in-law Colleen Maxwell, Joan Ivey a number of nieces and nephews and special friend Holly Tizzard.

She was predeceased by her husband James Ivey, a son Gordon Ivey; daughter Sharon Ivey; sisters; Janet (John) Snow, Wilma (Russell) Crews; brothers; Dan Maxwell, Gordon “Sonny” Maxwell; son-in-law Gerald Pearcey; sisters-in-law Anne Maxwell, Ray Maxwell, Valda Nugent, Claudia Ivey, special sister-in-law, Jean (Harvey) MacArthur; brothers-in-law Ralph (Betty) Ivey, Bert (Carmie) Ivey, George Ivey and Martin MacIsaac.

There will be no visitation by request. Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Fabian Ihunegbo officiating. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks are mandatory and social distancing must be followed when attending the funeral mass, limited seating will be available.
