Jessie "Irene" (Bennett) Robertson

We are saddened to announce the passing of Jessie "Irene" Robertson, 82, of North Sydney, on January 1, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, Irene was the daughter of the late George and Minnie (Clarke) Bennett. Irene was a devoted grandmother, mother, wife and sister.

Irene is survived by her husband David Robertson, her sons Chris (Darlene) Whalen and Patrick Whalen, and the light of her life, her only grandchild Tyler Whalen. Irene is also survived by her brothers Andy (Darlene) and Roddie (Theresa); sisters Sandra Andrews and Donna Edmunds; Step-son Brent Robertson.

Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her first husband Patrick J. Whalen; her brothers Kenny, Frank, Roy, and Doug; her sisters Joan Whyte, Linda Blackie, Mary Faulkner and Ethel Hillier.

At Irene's request, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W. J. Dooley Funeral Service, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Donations in memory of Irene can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff on 4D and the staff of the An Cala Palliative Care unit at the CBRH for the wonderful care provided to Irene in her final days.
