Joan Eavis Obituary

Joan Mary Eavis

North Sydney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Mary Eavis on Wednesday, October 5 , 2022 at Cape Breton Hospice Care, Sydney, NS.

Born in North Sydney on December 1, 1941, Joan was the only daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret Quirk. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club.  Joan’s favorite place was the beach.  She spent many days sitting in the sand and soaking up the sun at Indian Beach with her dear friend Norma Petite.  Joan loved to read and started each day doing the puzzles in the paper. She thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Walmart or “The Tiger” for her retail therapy and regularly received deliveries from her friends at The Shopping Channel.

Joan is survived by her son, Ronnie (Michelle) and her fur babies Reba and Mojo.  She is also survived by Margie Quirk.

Joan grew up in a family of brothers and then married into a family of brothers.  She is survived by her brothers Peter Quirk (North Sydney), Harold Quirk (Gwen) and Danny Quirk (Zita), both from Brampton Ontario; as well as brother-in-law, Tom Eavis and sister-in-law Karen Eavis along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Joan is predeceased by her husband Ron Eavis; brothers Kenny Quirk and Jimmy Quirk; brothers-in-law Phil Eavis, Cyril Eavis and Ward (Buddy) Eavis; sisters-in-law Bonnie Eavis and Yvonne Eavis.

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Poulos and Dr. John Ritter and the entire staff at Cape Breton Hospice for their compassion and care.  Special thanks to Brett and Jacqueline for their kindness and dedication during Joan’s brief stay.

Cremation has taken place and at Joan’s request there will be no service.  A private burial will take place under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home in North Sydney.
