Joan Evans Obituary

It is with great sadness and disbelief that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Saturday December 28, 2024, at the young age of 73.

Born in North Sydney, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Strickland) Vickers. Joan was raised by her grandmother Isabel Strickland.

Mom was a hard worker right up to being diagnosed with cancer in July. She worked at various jobs, from Bella’s from the Sea, the Northside Community Guest Home, to Fort McMurray camp jobs, but her most cherished position was being chosen to take care of her sister-in-law Pat Evans. Their relationship was uplifting and warmed your heart to witness how they complimented each other.

Joan will be forever loved and missed by her daughter Jennifer (Jay Donovan), who cared for her mom until the end, and son John (Kayla) who were a great support. She was also so proud to be called Nan, and would never give up an opportunity to brag about Hunter, Jersey, Kelsey, Brianna & Brady. She shared a special bond with her grand puppy “Josie”, who was a loving companion and brought her endless joy. She also leaves behind her brother Terry Vickers and sister Kay. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her grandmother Isabel Strickland, her husband Phil, her sister Peggy Anderson, her mother and father- in-law Lew and Lena Evans, brother-in-law David Evans and sister-in-law Patsy Evans.

Mom had a great support system, who Jennifer and John wish to give special thanks:  Val, Marcie, Carol, Tracey, Deb, Robena, Shelia, Hunter, Jersey and Kayla - whether it was a drive to an appointment or a bingo game, pick up groceries, a meal or a listening ear - they ensured she always felt well taken care of and loved.

Her unwavering love and dedication to her family will forever remain in our hearts, and always her quick- witted come backs could be counted on. Her love for the game of bingo brought her happiness (especially if she was winning), and cherished moments spent with friends and family. As we say good bye to our mom and nan, we take great comfort in imagining her calling out bingo amongst the stars.
